HAVC Croatian Audio Visual Centre
The Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) is the Government-backed strategic agency for the audiovisual sector in Croatia. It aims to stimulate a successful, vibrant audiovisual industry as well as to promote the widest possible enjoyment and understanding of audiovisual works throughout Croatia.
Active since 1989, Eurimages was established as a cultural support fund of the Council of Europe. It currently numbers 36 of the 47 member states of the Strasbourgbased Organisation. Eurimages promotes the European audiovisual industry by providing financial support to feature films, animations and documentaries produced in Europe. In doing so, it encourages co-operation between professionals established in different European countries. Eurimages has four support schemes: cinema co-production, theatrical distribution, exhibition and digital equipment for cinema theatres. Eurimages’ first objective is cultural, in that it endeavours to support works which reflect the multiple facets of a European society whose common roots are evidence of a single culture. The second one is economic, in that the Fund invests in an industry which, while concerned with commercial success, is interested in demonstrating that cinema is one of the arts and should be treated as such. The majority (almost 90%) of the Fund’s resources – which originate from member States’ contributions – goes to supporting co-production. Since it was set up in 1988, Eurimages has supported the co-production of 1349 fulllength feature films and documentaries as at 31/12/2010. A number of these have received prestigious awards (Oscars, Palme d’Or, Golden Lion…). The rules and conditions under which assistance is awarded are revised each year in order to reflect developments in filmmaking in the member States and to respond better to the needs of those working in the industry. www.coe.int/EURIMAGES

The creation of the European Film Academy (EFA) was the initiative of a group of Europe’s finest filmmakers brought together on the occasion of the first European Film Awards Ceremony held in November 1988. EFA was finally founded in 1989 as the European Cinema Society by its first president Ingmar Bergman and 40 filmmakers to advance the interests of the European film industry. Wim Wenders was elected as first chairman of the association which two years later was renamed European Film Academy. In 1996, he followed Ingmar Bergman as president of the EFA while British producer Nik Powell was elected as chairman of the EFA Board. He was followed by French producer Humbert Balsan who was chairman from 2003 until his sudden death in 2005. Current EFA Chairman is French producer Yves Marmion. The European Film Academy (EFA) now unites 2,800 European film professionals with the common aim of promoting European film culture. Throughout the year, the EFA initiates and participates in a series of activities dealing with film politics as well as economic, artistic, and training aspects. The programme includes conferences, seminars and workshops, and a common goal is to build a bridge between creativity and the industry. These activities culminate in the annual presentation of the European Film Awards.
